New Delhi : 20 per cent families belonging to poor section will be given Rs. 72,000 each annually as minimum income if Congress comes to power, Rahul Gandhi said. Rahul Gandhi claimed to have studied fiscal implications of the scheme and termed his promise as 'final assault on poverty' has begun.

People have suffered in the last five years. We will give justice to them, said Rahul Gandhi, addressing a press conference. His address comes amid intense election campaigning in India ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

Congress has already announced that Gandhi would be contesting from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Another senior leader PC Chacko said the party chief was yet to confirm if he would contest from Wayanad.

Congress leaders in Kerala are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping that their request to party chief Rahul Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad constituency would be accepted.
