Microsoft might launch it's Surface phone in September this year
Some time ago rumours were saying that Microsoft is working on a new Surface Phone. And now, new rumours indicate that release date might be very soon.
According to various news reports, Microsoft may be releasing the Surface Phone in September this year, and will also be launching it in three variants. One is expected to have 4GB RAM and 32Gb internal storage, the second with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and the third having 8GB RAM and 512GB storage.
While the Surface Phone is expected to look very similar to recent Lumia smartphones, it’s likely going to pack a lot more punch in the hardware department. Reports indicate it will have the Intel Atom X3 processor with a 5.5-inch QHD Super AMOLED displayand 21MP/8MP camera combination in a Magnesiun Aluminium body.
Apart from the fact that a number of leaks on the upcoming Surface phone have already emerged, Microsoft has also suggested that Windows isn't the right platform to generate developer interest, at least in the current year.
“If you wanted to reach a lot of phone customers, Windows Phone isn’t the way to do it. If you want to reach a lot of Windows customers, then this is the largest install base of 9 to 30-inch screens. If you wanted to do new and exciting things, then the Xbox and HoloLens is the place to have a discussion,” said Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of the Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft while speaking at Microsoft's BUILD 2016.
“We’re going to do some cool things with phones, but this year phones are an important part of our family but not the tip of the spear,” he added.
