New Delhi : The 'Sanju Baba' of Bollywood, veteran actor Sanjay Dutt, who was serving his sentence in Yerwada Jail, Pune, being accused of association in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts, was released from Pune's Yerwada jail today.

Looking forward to a large turnout of people and media outside the Yerwada Central Jail at the time release of actor Sanjay Dutt on Thursday, police personnel were deployed in the jail premises and also on way to the airport.

Some of the social organisations staged protest against the early release of Dutt, who has been granted remission of his sentence. Dutt completes 5 year atonement ends today. While he left the jail, he has got only RS. 440 in his pocket.

Since May 2013, Dutt  (56) has been serving the remaining 42 months of his five-year jail term following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. Dutt’s early release puts the protestors red face as they saw 1993 nightmare of Dutt getting over ahead of the prescribed time.

His full sentence period would have ended in November of this year, but after he was granted remission of seven days per month, his date of release was set for Thursday, February 25, which is today.

Dutt is slated to take a chartered flight from Pune to Mumbai. On Wednesday, in the meantime, organisations such as Bheem Chhava and Karzdar Hakk Samiti had announced that they would stage protests in front of the prison gate
