Don't hijack our identity, CAIT to Salman Khan
New Delhi : The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will support Khan Market Traders Association, New Delhi in its bid to sue Actor Salman Khan for launching 'Khanmarketonline.com' portal on his birthday on December, 27.
"It is strange how can anyone use the name of one of the prestigious market of the world for his own gains. If it is allowed then tomorrow. One may start Indiagateonline.com or Rashtrapatibhawanonline.com and so on so forth"-said CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal.
It is noteworthy that Khan Market Traders Association President Sanjeev Mehra has objected to using name of Khan Market by Salman Khan and has threatened to sue him.
Khandelwal further said that the name chosen by Salman Khan is more deceptive and infringe right of traders of Khan Market.
Further there is no relation between Khan Market and Salman Khan as neither he own any shop or house in Khan Market. The CAIT has appealed Salman Khan to withdraw name of Khan Market in his portal to avoid controversy.
However, if Khan Market Traders Association go to legal recourse the entire trade of Delhi will support KMTA. We will not allow anyone to encroach upon the goodwill earned by traders for the market by working overnight in past 65 years-said Khandelwal.
Noted lawyer Shilpi Jain opined that Khan Market Traders have the right to sue the Actor as the name Salman Khan has chosen is misleading and deceptive, among other things.
CAIT National President B. C. Bhartia said that small and medium self employed traders in Khan Market have managed to create a brand of their own after years of hard work and existence and should not be overnight usurped by a celebrity who can have a brand of his own.
The unique identity and brand that has been created across like Khan Market , Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar,Karol Bagh in Delhi and similar names in other parts of Country will be under threat and demeans when someone hijacks it overnight-said Ramesh Khanna, Delhi State President of CAIT.
