Ford India recalls 16,444 units of its compact SUV EcoSport
New Delhi : Ford India has initiated a voluntary recall of its EcoSport compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) to inspect and rectify an issue related to the rear suspension, the company said in a statement. These vehicles were manufactured at Ford’s Chennai plant between November 2013 and April 2014. No accidents related to the concern have been reported.
“Ford India is proactively contacting select customers to voluntarily inspect their EcoSport vehicles. In some of the affected vehicles, there is a possibility that the Rear Twist Beam (RTB) bolt may not be tightened to specification, which may cause the pivot bolt to break. This condition can potentially compromise vehicle handling and thereby increase the risk of an accident”, said a company statement.
Ford is writing to 16,444 EcoSport customers for getting their vehicles inspected at a local Ford dealer. If needed, the dealership will carry out necessary rework free of cost. In December last year, Ford had recalled 20,752 units of EcoSport to fix and airbag and faulty fuel issue.
A million passenger vehicles have been recalled by domestic firms since July 2012 when Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers announced a voluntary recall code for its member companies.
Earlier, the company had recalled over 1.66 lakh units of its Figo and Fiesta Classic models in September 2013 to rectify issues related to a faulty rear suspension and the power steering hose. Moreover, in December 2014, Ford India conducted a voluntary recall of 20,752 units of the EcoSport to address an issue related to a fuel and vapour line.
