Massive Earthquake of magnitude 7.7 in Afghanistan, felt in northern India
The epicenter of this quake is reported to be Hindukush Mountains, Afghanistan measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale. While, the Google says that epicenter of this quake is near Feyzabad, Afghanistan.
The US Geological Survey or USGS said the quake's epicentre was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Tremors that lasted about 40 seconds were also reported in Pakistan.
People rushed out of offices and homes as buildings shook in national capital Delhi. Phone and electricity lines are reportedly down in Jammu and Kashmir's capital, Srinagar.
In Chandigarh, video footage showed panicked people rushing out of offices. "As we rushed out, we saw cars shaking," said a man in Chandigarh. Hundreds of people are still outside, fearing aftershocks.
In most parts of Delhi, people rushed out of high-rise buildings in panic as the tremors continued for several minutes. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property in the national capital though people tweeted photos of buildings in Gurgaon that developed cracks.
While, tremors were felt in the capital of Rajasthan. "I suddenly found my chair was shaking. I live on ground floor in an apartment on civil lines. I just rushed out of my building, shouting and requesting people not to use the lift," said a resident Tejpal Saini.
