Capt Amarinder Singh meets Sonia and Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi : Former Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday met to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He discussed with them amid the long-expected reshuffle of the Punjab Congress unit.
The meeting is significant being the first joint meeting between the Congress high command and Capt Amarinder who has been pressing for the replacement of incumbent Punjab Pradesh Congress president Partap Bajwa.
The party has been buying time on Punjab, where Amarinder and Bajwa have been at loggerheads for long time now. The Gandhis do not want to isolate Amarinder in any decision on Punjab leadership.
Sources said the meeting at the 10, Janpath, residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi lasted for around 35 minutes during which discussions were held on how to resolve the leadership row in Punjab The party has been mulling over certain names such as Lal Singh, Ambika Soni and Ravneet Bittu as possible replacements of Bajwa, but senior leaders said only the leadership knew of the timing of the Punjab Congress reorganisation.
Rahul had last week met Bajwa who later declared that Rahul would in October join the Punjab padyatra he had planned. In saying so, Bajwa had indicated Rahul’s support for him.
